Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

Iagree with the others that said 13 year olds should be able to get a job at 13.Because we are teenagers which means we have responsibilities. Some of us take care of them and the rest do not.But the people that are the right age to get a job don`t won`t one so we should be able to apply for a job that is right there in front of us. Cause if you are mature, responsible and determined to want, then get last keep. Then we should be able to get one. We will work and do what we are held up on to do.So why give us the job that we won`t instead of settling for less than than the best!

I think that we should be able to work because we need money just as bad as a 16 year old.  My mom and dad need their money for the bills they have, and I need money too.  It's not right.

I don't like that law. It is not fair. I think that any kid 13 or older should have the right to baby-sit. Were responsible!
