Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think you should be able to work when you are 10 years old because, kids now need to do things and they can't always go to their parents because their parents won't always give them money.Parents are also telling us we need to be responsible and by having a job I think that can show them that we can be responsible no matter how old we are.I wouldn't care if it was a job like at A+ it would be fine to work their I would like to earn some money so I could get a cell phone or go to the mall and hang out with my friends.

I think that you should be able to get jobs no matter how you are. my family is poor we are almost in dept and i make my money by shoveling garages for $2. I already did all the houses in my area so my dad has to drive me so far so i can do houses and all i make is about $10 a month all because the dumb law says you can't work if you're under 14. if i could i would help out so muchand not only that but people need money for college im not going to save $10 a month and get a good education i would be lucky to work at mcdonalds.
