Question: Is it true that in Arizona you must be eighteen to purchase or posses tobacco but only 16 to smoke it?

    Answer:

No. In Arizona, it is illegal for a minor (a person under 18 years of age) to purchase, possess, or use tobacco products. In addition, any minor who has tobacco products in their possession is guilty of an incorrigible act.

I agree with the idea of someone 16 being able to smoke…also since it is against the law to distribute tobacco to minors they should make it so that with parental consent it is ok for a minor 16-17 to smoke. Only the parent may buy his or her chilled the cigarettes. It would make it much easier to enforce the law…I have run into some situations were a police officer himself does not care if you are a minor smoking, its just the luck of the draw!

I think that's actually true. I've been questioned my the police 3 times while they knew i had tobacco in my posession. 2 times i was smoking a cigarette and One of those times i was actually ticketed for curfew but not for the cigarette i was smoking. The cop told me that it is a family issue and if you are at least 16 and unless your parents complain that you are smoking, that you won't be ticketed for an incorrigible act. One of my friends who is 14 was ticketed once before though, and had to take a class on tobacco and drugs.

Something else that dosen't make sense: when you're 18 you can drive, vote, have sex and join the military...but you can't buy alcohol. Who makes up laws like this?

In Florida, that's the law too. You can smoke it, just not buy it. What's the point of that?

I found out that in illinois it is legal for someone 16 or 17 to legally smoke if he or she is on their parents property with parental permission.
