Question: I was arrested for shoplifting from a K-Mart and I was left with a ticket to show up in court well i guess thats what it is but im wondering what is it that i can get like time or punishment do i get for such a crime so what will happen because i've heard many stories but dont know what might happen to me please i would like to know that consequences well thank you bye.

    Answer:

There are many factors that determine what will happen and what type of punishment you will receive after being convicted of shoplifting. These factors include the value of the property shoplifted, the age of the person convicted (adult or minor), the past criminal record of the person convicted, the decisions of the prosecutor and court, etc. (ARS 13-1805).

For example, if the value of the property was worth more than $2,000 then it is a class 5 felony (up to 1 1/2 yrs in prison); if the property was worth $250-$2,000, then it is a class 6 felony (up to 1 yr in prison); if the property was worth less than $250, then it is a class 1 misdemeanor (up to 6 months in prison or $2,500 fine). (ARS 13-1805). But, other factors can change these punishments.

You should contact a lawyer to help you with your specific case, or ask the court for an appointed attorney.

I work as a LPO, Loss Prevention Officer and for a offense thats less then a 10.00 its the usual ban off all propertys with company and a simple ticket. Now if its over say like 250 or something then its a ticket/fine and ban off company property and restitution.

When I was thirteen, me and two friends got shoplifting at a big department store. I was only an accomplice [I wasn't stealing at all] but my two friends were. The police were called and I was let off with a warning and as far as I know, one of the girls had to pay a fine. This isn't on any of our records either.
