Speak Up! - View Question #18613

    printer friendly version

Question: If you dont trust your teacher or feel he may sexually assault you and they make you stay after class do you have the right to say no and leave.

Whether you have the right to say no to a request from a teacher, probably depends on the policies of your school and the reasoning behind your refusal.

If you believe you have reason to be uncomfortable around your teacher, you should speak with an adminstrator or teacher at the school you can trust. Under Arizona Department of Education, Policy & Procedure(Sexual Harassment for Students in State Operated Schools).

Report the incident of sex discrimination or sexual harassment to a teacher, administrator or counselor. If a teacher or other school employee receives a report of sex discrimination or sexual harassment, that person is required by law to report it within three (3) business days so that appropriate investigation and action may be taken.

All schools operated by state agencies are committed to creating and maintaining a learning environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. Each student has the right to learn in an environment free of sex discrimination and sexual harassment. Sex discrimination and sexual harassment violate federal and state law, and will not be tolerated.

If you ever feel uncomfortable around someone for that reason, you should not be around them by yourself. You should say no, and talk to someone you can trust about this situation.

He legaly can't fail you just because you didn't go. So, if he thretens that, tell him off. Us kids gots to stick togetha!!

I agree with the girl under me. My mom told me, "If you ever feel uncomfortable near someone, get away from them. No matter what." If you have to get the police involved, then do so.
