Question: I am 18 and I smoke. What about those no-smoking areas?
Answer: It is illegal to smoke in a school, a day care, a healthcare facility, a government building, an elevator, public transportation, arenas, auditoriums, and theaters. However, smoking may be permitted in special smoking areas. SC Code 44-95-20. By violating this statute, you would face a misdemeanor charge with a penalty of a fine between $10 and $25. SC Code 44-95-50. Additionally, your local government may have more restrictions on where you can and cannot smoke.
