Question: What are the laws regarding mandatory breaks at work?

Answer:

There are no laws or regulations in Arizona covering breaks and lunch hours either for adults or for children. However there are federal labor laws that cover breaks.

In my mind if you require them to attend during their lunch you should pay the 1/2 hr that you have made them attend the meeting. In my case at my work in healthcare they have us attend mandatory meetings but only pay for 15min.'s. Just curious:) Thanks

Time to clean up and get to the rest area are not part of the 10 minutes; work related interuptions restart the clock, so 15 minutes is common with 5 miniutes for travel and clean up. I am an exempt employee that is required to participate in lunch meetings. The law is in agreement, but if I show up for work, I can go home at any time my work is done which can not be based on the hours that I have worked. If the meeting is over just after lunch, I can go home for the day!
