    Question: Can people go to visit the juvenile detention center to see what is like to be there?

    Answer: Generally, most portions of a juvenile detention center are not open to the public. Family members of detainees may visit during certain times of the week in a specific visitation area, but they are not permitted inside other areas.

    Although each detention center has their own policies, generally the strict security of detention and correctional facilities makes it difficult to permit tours. So many kids never get the chance to see inside a detention or correctional facility without breaking the law and getting sent there.

    LawForKids.org has an online tour of a Juvenile Detention facility that you might find interesting. There are many color photographs and the tour of the facility is lead by Jay, a detainee. See the Detention tour...
