    Question: Do we have the right to say anything we want to a cop before he reads me my Miranda rights and will it still be held against me in the court of law?

    Answer: You always may say anything you want to a police officer. However, anything you say before a formal interrogation can always be held against you in a court of law. The best thing is to not say anything you will regret, and wait until you have the assistance of a lawyer. If you are taken into custody, you have the right to a lawyer, and if you can't afford one, the state will provide one for you. It is always best to take advantage of this right and ask for a lawyer.
