    printer friendly version

Question: If I have attended traffic school for a car accident can I attend it again under 24 months for a first speeding ticket?

Answer: The Defensive Driving Program allows a person to have a civil traffic ticket dismissed, and therefore not reported on their driving record, if they complete the Defensive Driving Course. According to ARS §28-3392(B), only one ticket can be dismissed through the Defensive Driving Course during a twenty-four month period. Thus, if you have attended the Defensive Driving Course in order to keep the ticket that was issued to you for the accident off of your driving record, you will not be eligible to go through the Defensive Driving Course to have a second ticket kept off your record until twenty-four months have passed from the date you were issued the first ticket.

Some judges allow a person to go through the Defensive Driving Course again instead of paying a fine but that is usually after a person has pled Responsible or been found Guilty on the traffic ticket. In that situation the ticket is reported to the persons driving record and the attendance at the Defensive Driving Course is just done instead of forcing the person to pay a fine.
