Speak Up! - View Question #17777

    printer friendly version

Question: My father remarried about a year ago. Recently I got into an argument with my stepmother because I broke my curfew. She threatened to spank me the next time I disobey her. Does my stepmother have the authority to spank me?

    Answer:

    Simple answer: Yes.

Unless she is beating you to the point of abuse, she does have the authority to spank you. You may want to have a family meeting with your father and stepmother and discuss how this made you feel, and whether or not this is the best method for discipline. Perhaps, you could suggest that if you break curfew you not be allowed to go out the next weekend, instead of being spanked.

Something similar happened to me.....my stepdad got in my face and was yelling at me because we had an arguement. I had a phone in my hand and I pointed it and told him to back away (i didnt threaten him) and he hit my arm hard and threw the phone out of my hand. i want to know if this is a punishment or an abusive attack.

Believe me, there are worse punishments than a spanking.
