Question: What would be the punishment be for burglary of a small store?
Answer: There are a lot of possibilities. Burglary of any business is a class 4 felony. It is possible that the charge could be reduced to a misdemeanor if the juvenile, his or her attorney, and the prosecutor agree to do that.
In juvenile court, punishment for any crime ranges from minor consequences to some type of probation to juvenile prison, possibly until the juvenile reaches adulthood. A judge makes a decision about consequences only after the juvenile is found responsible for an offense. In deciding on consequences, the judge considers the juvenile's history, the family's ability to supervise the juvenile, and any other factor the judge thinks may affect the juvenile's behavior.
In adult court, a person can receive probation or imprisonment for a felony like burglary.
