Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think 13 year olds should be able to get a summer job because most of us are sitting on our ass watching tv or on the computer. If we did have summer jobs we would be more motivated. We have goals to that cost money too you know.

I wish it could be but in this wourld kids have no say in when are were are even time in somthings age.i think kids/13year should. 13 year old kids should be able to get jobs too. Their no different than 14 year olds. they are only one years difference. I understand 12 year old kids, they are not teenagers yet....

i am 13 and i just want to say that kids should be able to work if they want we work just as hard if not harder that adult we are young so we are packed with energy, we wouldn't complain because we want to be there. change the child labor laws, kids will not be silent anymore we want to work we need the money and we will go as far as we can with this. let us work we need money to, to help our families get out of poverty, get the things we need for school when or families cant pay for it, buy clothes for ourselves, and learn what it is going to be like when we get old. we want to change the law
