Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?
Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

i think that 13 year olds should be able to work, i really want a job but i cant find one any where. It would be easier for my family if i had job because they cant always afford the things i want. also i would have a lot more responsablity which i think would be good for any 13 year old.

13 year olds should be allowed to get jobs!!! The employers have a lot of experience knowing who is suited for the job or not, they would be able to know who is mature enough and who is not. I know a great many people who are twice my age that are less mature than myself, as someone previously said. We're teens, not children, I believe that we are old, and most of us are mature enough to make our own decisions. If we want to work, we should have that option.

most of the jobs i look for are for "16" year olds. me and my friends have been looking forever. why can't we? we're teens
