Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

Even if we get work there wold not be manny good jobs out there for us to do. I do think we 13 year should be able to work but than why say all this when we are about to trun 14 . Every kid can work just think out side of the box . You can babysit , cut the grass , wash cars with your friends , many things that you can do and not need a interview . I'm just saying the law state kids under 14 can't work but if you think about it .Us kids under 14 can work and make money . Just think out side the box.

Why can't we just ignore what people say and get a job anyway. We would like to have some money too!!! I think people should make it legal for children of the age 12 and up to work in places as well as 14 - whatever!!!
