Question: Can employers refuse to hire 14-year-olds if they hire 15-year-olds in AZ?

Answer: Arizona law does not forbid an employer from refusing to hire 14-year-olds, while hiring 15-year-olds.

However, Arizona statues do have various restrictions regarding the employment of children under the age of 16. Arizona Law (ARS §23-232) says that children under 16 are prohibited from working in, about, or in connection with:

    -manufacturing
    -processing
-laundering or dry cleaning in a commercial laundry
    -warehousing
    -construction
    -boiler, furnace, or engine rooms
-occupations involving work from a ladder, scaffold, windowsill, or similar structures, or places more than five feet in height
-certain activities in retail food or gasoline service establishments.

Another Arizona Law (ARS §23-231) has more restrictions for employment of children under 18 years old.

In addition, there are limitations placed on the hours that may be worked by children under the age of 16. Minors under the age of 16 may not work more than 3 hours per day and 18 hours per week when enrolled in school. When not enrolled in school or when school is not in session, minors under the age of 16 may not work more than 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week.

when i was 14 i was mature enough to handle a job and infact i still have that job. i was always on time. i never missed a days work yet! so i think thathopefully some 14 year olds are responsble to have a job and make money instead of always having to ask your parents and or grandparents for money to me that's just embarresing.

Hey all you 14 year olds ot there. Im 15 and I dont understand why ome 14 year olds feel there are so many more jobs open to 15 year olds. The truth is you can only be a bag boy/girls and that in most cases, the positions are filled so you can get a job. But aside from that fact, the reason 14 year olds dont get the same treatment is because for one:you are to young by state working laws,2:Employers dont want to hire people that wont always be able to drive themselves to work, and 3:Judging by the responses of some
