    printer friendly version

Question: Why are fireworks illegal in some states but they are not in other states?

    Answer:

Laws can be made at several different levels of government. For instance, there are national laws that apply to all residents of the U.S., there are state laws that only apply to people in a specific state, and there are local laws which apply to only people in a city or town.

In the case of fireworks, states have the jurisdiction to make laws regulating the sale of fireworks or banning their use altogether.

Some states next to each other might have different laws regarding fireworks, making it possible to cross the state border to buy them legally.

Be careful though, because even if you purchased fireworks legally in one state, you are still subject to the laws in the state that you are in. So you can still get in trouble for letting off fireworks if it is against the law in your state. For more information about fireworks in different states, visit the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commision online.

I agree fireworks should be legal, i do however think that certian fireworks should not be allowed because of the danders of them. I have been using fireworks sience I've been 13 and I have never been hurt, short of being burnt by lighting a fuse but who hasen't. Being safe is the main priority when shooting fireworks. Here is a small list of fireworks that I think are dangerous. All Skyrockets, Roman Candles, All Missles, Ariel Spinners. All these listed can shoot off in directions that can not be controled. I prefer reloadable shells, firecrackers, #100, #200, #300 shells and any repeater.

I think that fireworks are the best thing to come to us but making them illegal. I mean making a sparkler illegal is just stupid. They should let us have all fireworks every where in the country. Just don't be stupid and hold the firewok and blow your head off. We just need to be safe.

I live in Indiana and I buy a lot of good, fun, fireworks such as roman candles, bottle rockets, firecrackers, cherry bombs, and things that shoot in the air and look like professional displays. Every year I legally buy and light off all of this. So if you guys are bummed out about not having a fun summer and 4th of July, I suggest you join me and move to Indiana. It's one of the only reasons I still live here.

I know that fireworks are illegal, in new jersey and in some other states. I feel stuck because I enjoy shooting off fireworks shows, and watching them. I know they are dangerous if they get into the wrong hands of people. But anyone who has common sense could make it safe and fun. What annoys me most are these strict laws, They should legalize fireworks in new jersey in certain zoning areas. fireworks are apart of american and euopean cultures,it expresses celebration and happiness. can you imagine the 4th of july without fireworks,I can't besides it's your backyard your property! NOT FAIR!
