Question: What is the legal age that a child can be to be able to ride in a car with an adult seat belt on. Not a car seat?
Answer: Once a child is 6 years old, the child does not have to sit in a car seat. But, if the child is under the age of 6, but weighs more than 80 pounds, and can sit with his back against the seat back cushion with his knees bent over the seat edge without slouching, the child does not need a car seat. However, if the child is under the age of 6, he cannot sit in the front seat (unless of course there is no back seat or all the back seats are being used by children under the age of 6).
