Question: What is Marijuana?
Answer: The term 'marijuana' refers to the leaves and flowering tops of the cannabis plant. Marijuana is a tobaccolike substance produced by drying the leaves and flowering tops of the cannabis plant. Marijuana contains a natural chemical called THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) which gives users of the drug a 'high' when smoked. Marijuana leaves are usually smoked in the form of loosely rolled cigarettes called joints or cigars called blunts.
A number of other drugs including phencyclidine (PCP) may be used in making joints and blunts, substantially altering their effects and deadliness. Some common names for marijuana include pot, grass, weed, mary jane, acupulco gold, and reefer.
Marijuana users experience the same health problems as tobacco smokers, such as bronchitis, emphysema, and bronchial asthma. Some of the effects of marijuana use also include increased heart rate, dryness of the mouth, reddening of the eyes, impaired motor skills and concentration, and frequent hunger. Extended use increases risk to the lungs and reproductive system, as well as suppression of the immune system. Occasionally, hallucinations, fantasies, and paranoia are reported.

Aftermath? You've obviously never used marijuana before or just don't know anything about it. First off, the only negative thing you'll experience afterwards is less money, because since its illegal, it's harder to find, there isn't major companys producing. Or, negatively, you might get caught or something of that matter. These would be fixed with legalization. Whats funny is a lot of people funning the US right now, or will be soon, grew up during the 60's and 70's when it was extremely prevalent.

Smoking marijuana is just as bad as smoking cigarettes. When you inhale the marijuana, you breathe it in deep and keep it there for longer periods of time than a cigarette. The average weed has three times the THC that it didnt in the 60's. So, you're parents are a little behind the times. Weed also weakens the immune system a lot. Smoking every now and then isn't detremental to your health, but niether is smoking a cigarette everynow and then. The real problem is the people who smoke once or more a day... get a life. Your problems are still there and now you have one more: you're codependant

I am a sophomore at MIT and I smoke pot frequently. It has not affected my academic performance (I had a 3.9 gpa and a 1520 on my sats in high school) or inhibited my ability to concentrate. It has helped me relax and enjoy life more, and I have really learned a lot from experiencing life in more than one state of mind. Also, my asthma has gotten markedly better since I began smoking -- in fact, my pulmonologist (lung doctor) told me that marijuana would probably help my asthma. (Of course, this does not mean that there are other negative effects on my lungs, but these are not nearly as li
