    printer friendly version

Question: Can minors be charged with animal cruelty?

Answer: Yes. Juveniles can be charged with animal cruelty. Depending on the severity of the neglect, abandonment or mistreatment, a person who violates the animal cruelty statute can be guilty of either a class 1 misdemeanor or a class 6 felony.(ARS 13-2910). A juvenile committing these acts would be guilty of a delinquent act - an act by a juvenile which if committed by an adult would be a criminal offense.(ARS 8-201). Depending on the age and the past history of the offender, an act of animal cruelty classified as a class 6 felony could result in the juvenile being charged with the adult offense rather than a juvenile delinquent act. (ARS 13-501).

Absolutely kids should be punished to the full extent of the law for animal abuse. Animals have just as many feelings, if not more, than some humans. How many times have we seen in the news that a violent criminal started out abusing animals?

GIVE ME A BREAK!!! The only feelings animals have are the feelings of touch, i.e. pain, hot, cold, etc. While I aggree that animals should be treated humanely, they are ANIMALS, NOT HUMAN.

I believe that minors should be charged with animal cruelty. Animals should not be treated with harm or disrespect. They should be treated like you would treat a person you love. Animals have feelings to. It hurts me when I see someone young hurting animals. We should fix up our acts and be good examples to young kids so that no animals are hurt.
