    printer friendly version

Question: How long do you go to jail for attempted murder?

Answer: Attempted murder is a class 2 felony. If the defendant does not have any prior felony convictions and the crime did not involve the use of a deadly weapon (e.g. gun), dangerous instrument (e.g. knife) or result in the serious physical injury of the victim, the defendant would be sentenced for a class 2 non-dangerous felony. The range of punishment for a class 2 non-dangerous felony is a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 12.5 years.

If the crime did involve a deadly weapon, dangerous instrument or resulted in the serious physical injury of the victim, the defendant is convicted of a class 2 dangerous felony. In that case, the minimum prison term is 7 years and the maximum prison term is 21 years.

Why should someone get bail if they shot an other person twice in the leftside just a little from the heart and that person was almost paralize and still have not gain back full control of his legs and hands. and yet a judge grant bail 4 at least $1500. i think thats not right cause what if thats person should do the same thing again to some one else. what do u think?

My boyfriend (and the father of my unborn baby) was walking in to a place to go eat. In the parking lot he saw a group of about 15 people coming up to him. one guy was a guy he knew but the guy got in hisface and pushed him a few times. my boyfriend told him to stop more than once. he didnt so my boyfriend took out a knife and stabbed him. how long could he be in jail for? he is charged with attempted murder and assult with deadly weapon. and he is 18.
