    printer friendly version

Question: Is there any way I can be sure that I get to live with only one of my parents in a divorce case?

Answer: These decisions are generally based on what is best for the child whose parents are getting divorced. The judge makes the final decision. Often the parents agree and the judge supports their decision. If the parents do not agree, the judge will try to figure out what is best. Sometimes the judge will ask to talk to the kids and sometimes the parents request that the judge talk to the children involved. Usually, if a judge decides that a child should live with just one parent, the judge will order visits with the other parent.

children should be able to decide which parent to live with because my mother uses me to get back at my father , by saying I can't see him and that's not fair.
