Question: Is there a law that prohibits minors from attending R-rated movies?
Answer: There is no law passed by Arizona or the Federal Government that prohibits minors from attending R-rated movies. The rating system that you are asking about is put out by the Motion Picture Association. Theatre owners voluntarily enforce the guidelines. Currently, about 85% of theatres in the United States subscribe to this system and will not admit individuals under 17 to R-rated movies without a parent or guardian present. If you can drive a car at 16 then you can watch a rated R movie. Over half of teh movies are rated R. How convenient that you can simply click to watch a porno but the corbin movie theatre bars a 16 old out of a stupid rated R movie. Our veiws are so backwards.

I run a 10 theater cineplex and too many parents try to buy tickets for their kids but not accompany them inside. What kind of guardians are these? Will they ever find out what adult matter they allowed their children to be subjected to? I don't allow it!!

First off if a movie like many recently rated R comedies and or horror flicks has full frontal nudity then thats the same as you wanting to allow minors to have the ability to purchase nude magazines. And then if there is violence or abusive language then why stop them (children of any age as some say have the right to see R rated movies) from buying the latest M rated video game or the rapper who curses about everything they can for shock-value and corrupting young minds into a useless life-style. If I might add my two cents, I think you all are upset about the wrong things. First, theaters enforce this law because there are many adults who want a haven, a place that is "adults only" to enjoy 2 hours away. They may lose money by unrestricted viewing. Second, we know that you're going to see it anyway, that's between you and your parent. Third, the rating system is completely arbitrary and corrupt anyway. There are "R" movies that should be PG-13 and "PG-13" movies that should be "R". PG used to stand for Parental Guidance, now every time we turn around another org is parenting for us.

i think its really stupid for theaters to restrict what ages are allowed in to certian movies as others have said, if we dont see it in theaters, we ARE going to see it somewhere else, so there's really no point in tryin to stop us. my parents have let me watch R rated movies since i was about...4 so i really dont see why im not allowed to go to the theater and see one. by the age of probabaly 12 or 13, maybe earlier, most kids have seen just about everything that can be shown in an R rated movie. these laws are stupid and should be changed.
