Question: Is there a law that prohibits minors from attending R-rated movies?

Answer: There is no law passed by Arizona or the Federal Government that prohibits minors from attending R-rated movies. The rating system that you are asking about is put out by the Motion Picture Association. Theatre owners voluntarily enforce the guidelines. Currently, about 85% of theatres in the United States subscribe to this system and will not admit individuals under 17 to R-rated movies without a parent or guardian present. If you would like more information regarding MPAA and their rating system, call the MPAA at 220-293-1966 or visit their website www.mpaa.org

Rated R films depict decaptiations and graphic oral and other sex, none of which should be legally less than X. The content is no different than in most NC-17 movies. It wil not stup until parents boycot films that include things like this that don't add to the value of films. Hollywood always pushed MPAA to lower its standards just to send films to entire families. Why should we lower ours for their profit? The very CONTENT of rated R films should not be legal to be R, since the sex, gore, and other behavior is GLORIFIED, and never used for parents to teach children

I think it is rediculous that a parent is required to be present. If we don't see it in theater, we will just see it someplace else; television or by renting/buying it. I'm 17 and have watched R rated movies my entire life. I am mature enough to not let violence and sex and whatnot get to my head, thank you. I think if they are going to have any age restrictions, they need to lower it from 18 to about 15 (at least).

There should be no need for a parent. My parents let me see rated R movies al the time. It's not like if some sex scene comes up, there gonna cover my eyes and ears. LOL. I'm 15 and those hormones are flying around. They sould cut down the age for R movies.

Why should there be no need for parents to be a rated "R" what if while during the movie breaks out and there are no parents there protecting their kids!! If you had kids wouldn't you want to be there with your kids!!! If your kids would go to the movies and see ppl having sex and drinking they would get the wrong influence and then they would want to do it!!!
