    printer friendly version

Question: Can my parents Force me to go to Church ? I am Atheist.

Answer: It all depends on your age or capacity. If you are a child or have been found to be incompetent, then yes, the parents of a minor child or guardian of an incompetent person can force the child or incompetent person to go to church (or anywhere else within reason).

For practical purposes, the Constitution (First Amendment), protects your right to BELIEVE anything you want to BELIEVE, regardless of every other factor. So, even if forced to attend a ceremony you don't believe in, your freedom of belief is protected.

Religion is a choice!! this country was founded on freedom of religion!! I'm agnostic because i'm tired of being spoon fed bull!! Yes, my parents force me to go to church. They also get mad when i try to talk to them about my views. So I use my time at church to study the relgion so as to not be ignortant of it. I can support my views with facts. argue all you want!

Not at all, if you don't believe in a religion you should not attened that church, and noone under and any circumstances should be forced to do something the don't agree with.

If a child finds something offensive they should not be forced to endure it. I find the church a waste of time. My parents are trying to make me go to church for an hour tomorrow (christmas eve), and I am Athiest. I was baptised as a child, grew up going to church every sunday... and I have just had enough of this. I know there is no such thing as heaven and hell. There is no supreme being. I am very intelligent so do not call me some 15 year old punk. I am just very offended that my parents threatened to not give me christmas presents if I do not go. To me, that is a total violation o
