Question: What rights do parents have when a child turns 17?
Answer: A child is considered a minor in Arizona until their 18th birthday. That means that any time between birth and the day someone turns 18, they are considered a child for purposes of Arizona law. Children are in the care of the parents until they become adults, meaning parents make decisions about their care until they become adults.
Children can not enter into contracts, make legal decisions, or vote. Although there are some things that begin to change as you get older, for example, being able to earn a driver's license, you are still considered a child in the eyes of the law until you turn 18.

you need to tell someone because that is the only way that you are going to get out of the situation, trust me i have so many friends that were there. and i have my fiancees mom that is going through the same thing. you need to call the police or you need to tell a teacher someone that can help you because that is the only way that you are going to get out of that situation!!

i'm turning 17 very soon and i too have been looking hard for laws on guardianship and moving out. i've had teachers and peers tell me that though you're not a legal adult until 18, you can move out at 17 but may involve going to court. i also know that you can file for legal guardianship of yourself so that until you're 18 you can enter contracts (ie. living arrangements, etc.) i've been saving money just in case but i'm really trying to stick it out until i'm 18. it's just getting to be too much though. my parents don't physically abuse me and they don't call me stupid or anything, really, m
