Speak Up! - View Question #179

    printer friendly version

Question: I am seven years old and my parents want to get rid of me. Can they do that?

Answer: Parents have a duty to support their children and to care for them. If they are not doing this they can be charged with criminal conduct, and their child can be taken away from them. You do not say what makes you think that they want to get rid of you. It is not an easy or pleasant thing to lose or get rid of a child.

They can put you up for adoption if they can find a family that wants to adopt you.

Child Protective Services can investigate if they get a report that your parents are neglecting or abusing you. They can then take you away and put you in a foster home.

If you are suffering from neglect or abuse you should talk to someone at your school like a teacher or counselor, at your church, or simply call the child abuse hotline at 1-888-SOS-CHILD or 1-888-767-2445.

If you would like a more specific answer, please write again with more information about your situation.

You can't turn in parents for not wanting or loving their kids. The law does not require them to. And what a child may believe to be the case, may not be. If parents don't want us, they can give us to the State to deal with. And you can be sure that the State will not "love" or "want" us either. They will place us in a "home" that will be paid to keep us.

If you truly in your heart believe that your parents truly don't want you, then you need to turn them in and you will find someone that will appreciate to have a sweet child in there life to enjoy. Your parents should be thankful for you. Are you sure they don't want you? Or maybe something hard is going on in your lives right now that is making you feel this way? Think it over hunny and if you believe they dont want you, do it.

I am sorry to hear that. It seems as though maybe you need to speak to someone about how you feel or even speak to someone with your parents about how you feel. For being only seven and able to know how to use the internet and computers you seem pretty smart for being seven.

Thats really sad. I'm sorry. I don't know what I would do without my parents. I love them. Tell your teacher or someone you know and trust.

I feel that if your parents dont want you then they dont deserve you. My kids are my life and if I never did anything right in my life , I was and am and always will be a good dad. My kids are a blessing from God as are all kids. And if a kids goes bad, it isnt the kids fault, it is the parents fault for not teaching their kids about respect.I am truly sorry to read things like this and I hope and pray that you get into a home with parents that are loving and kind. Ones that will teach you and do things with you. There are hundreds of people out there that would do anything to have a kid and t
