Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I have read all the comments on this web page and they all make since. Not every body has parents that can offord to buy things for their children all the time. Kids 10 and up need jobs. So I agree, you people need to fix this QUICK!!! We need a head start so when we have graduated we're able to afford to buy a house and land. I think your just affraid that if kids get a job it will be less money put into your pocket. That why some kids turn out to be beats and low lives because they weren't able to exsperience work at a young age. IT'S NOT FAIR AND NOT RIGHT, AND YOU ALL KNOW THAT!!!
