Speak Up! - View Question #373

    printer friendly version

Question: If I get arrested for the curfew, what will happen. Will you get handcuffed?

Answer: As usual with law enforcement, there is not a one-line answer. Everything depends on the specific circumstances within each situation. However, here is a basic answer: If arrested for curfew, a juvenile is usually not handcuffed. The juvenile will receive a citation (will have to appear in court at a later date) and parents will be called to come pick him up. However, if the officer has to transport the juvenile somewhere (home?), the juvenile will most likely be handcuffed. This is a safety issue with the transport situation.

I think curfew is a bad thing. Teens are much more mature than adults think they are and they deserve much more privleges than those government people give um. I'm glad I'm almost old enough to be free from the curfew law. When I'm about 30 years old and you adults who are sitting in a nursing home, I'm gonna peek at you through the window and stick my tongue out and say, "I'm out and midnight and nothing bad is happening!" I have never been arrested for curfew because I'm a very mature 15-year-old and am not stupid like everyone thinks teens are.

I was arrested for curfew a couple weeks ago. The cop took me home, and yeah, he handcuffed me. I was a bit worried until he explained why they did it. Safety reasons for me and for them, something that that. They took the cuffs off when I got back to the house.
