Speak Up! - View Question #529

    printer friendly version

Question: I was at a party that got raided by the cops "party patrol" and had a bac of .023 and that was my first Mip ever. I have a clean record and have not gotten in trouble since. Do I have any choices like community service, or AA meetings that I could attend so I do not get my license revoked?

Answer: If you have not been in trouble before, and you weren't driving, there is a very good chance that you will be given the opportunity to take an alcohol education class and maybe some community service. Generally, if you successfully complete the class and community service, they will dismiss the charges against you. In some courts, you take the class without even having to do community service.

However, just know that having your driver's license revocated is ALWAYS a possibility when a juvenile finds him or herself in trouble. The judge can impose that sentence for almost any reason, but they typically don't for a first time offense that didn't involving you behind the wheel of a car.

If you are at a party with about 20 people and a gang of about 30 with weapons comes and hurts people and the cops come and find out that there are underage drinkers and they take everyones info would the cops run everyones name at the party at a later time and give them the punishment they should have gotten right then and there or will they just keep the names strictly for witness use and search for the gang and let everyone at the party slide
