Question: What is the penalty for assault and battery?

Answer: The laws are different in every state, but are basically a crime. Punishment usually depends on how serious it was, if a weapon was involved, was the victim physically injured, etc. In many states a juvenile accused of assault can (or must) be tried as an adult. Penalties include jail, prison, probation, fines, restitution, community service and counseling. The Judge considers the age of the person, their record and the seriousness of the crime.

In NZ I was at school and having lunch with a few mates and about 50 kids came in and circled around me and held back my mates and 1 16 and 2 17 year olds tried to get me to fight I had just had surgery on my nose so said no, ( I have never fought before, but not scared) 1 pushed me over twice then three of them started punching and so did I, some of my mates broke free, I went to the police and lay assault charges and they took statement etc, after school my friends without my knowledge lay in wait for the main guy and dealt to him, now police are going to charge me as well, unfair!!!!
