Speak Up! - View Question #127

    printer friendly version

Question: At what age can you choose which parents you want to live with either?

Answer: Your adopted parents are your legal parents and have the right to make decisions on your behalf until you are 18, including where you live. This must be a difficult situation for you and the adults involved if you are now having contact with your biological parents. Depending on the circumstances of your biological parents and your age, sometimes visitation arrangements can be worked out if all parties are willing. You may want to speak to your school counselor, you may need an adult to help you work through this.

I live with my mom and even though I love her with all my heart WE DO NOT GET ALONG! Everyone (the rest of my family, my friends) say that it's because we are to close in age. My mom is the only person that doesn't believe it. How old do you have to be to be able to choose which parent you want to live with?
