Question: Can a parent spank their kid at any age before 18 years old? I don't mean beat the kid just spank them?
Answer: Arizona law does provide that parents and persons acting as parents, including school personnel, may use corporal punishment (spanking). The punishment must be reasonable and not excessive.
In Arizona a child is anyone under the age of 18, and until you are 18, you are under the care, custody and control of your parent or legal guardian.
The Arizona Legislature passed a new law that went into effect on August 12, 2005 that allows minors to be emancipated. However, emancipation is a very difficult process that few are eligible for. See the LawForKids.org Laws page for more information.

I agree with the practice of spanking. Spankings or the fear of such kept me from falling into the peer pressure syndrome. Yes there was a time when I couldn’t wait till I was 18 so I could leave home and never come back; however, as I grew older I realized how good those spankings were for me.
I realize there are some kids that don’t need to be spanked but know there are an awful lot of kids that would greatly benefit from a stricter method of discipline, as long as the fine line of discipline and abuse is not crossed.

Sorry Dennis but you need to face reality. It is legal to spank under the age of 18, and believe it or not a lot of parents still take their kids over their knee when they need it. Heck, I still get paddled in school and I'm 17. Do you think that is made up too? Next time do a little research before you start calling everyone here sick names.
