Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think kids need jobs, because their parents never want to give them money and they want to get things.

I think allowing kids under 14 to work wouldn't be such a bad thing I belive the age limit should be 12 this will teach the children responsiblity they will learn to work for what they want and this will teach kids money managemet instead of just allowing kids to splurge their parents money. They should make sure that the employers don't treat the children unfairly but a fair amount of time and pay.

Ya I think thats its really itiotic for kids my age not to be able to get a job i mean ya people go to college not knowing what they went their for i mean at my age 13 why not try our options i really dont want to baby sit i get enough of that at home and walking dogs i mean thats kewl to spend time with animals but it gets old. People are always saying and asking why dont kids ever get out of the house and they are usually talking about teens well heres the answer to that in my perspective its because they have nothing to do sometimes kids just arent into sports and getting a job will help!!
