Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think that they should change the job restriction of age 14 to 13. I think this because I am 13 & I think it would be nice to not have 2 ask my parents for money anymor! Also, some 13-year olds are mature for their age & they could handle a job. Maybe they should make some kind of survey or form you have to fill out & they check it & see if your mature enough for the job ?!

I feel that is unfair because we should have a choice because I feel that movie actors work before they become 14 and that is a job so why can't teens work if they have the permission from a parent if there parent is fine with them working that should be fine because everyones parent feel different.

most kids are getting killed because they have nothins else to do . So people need to start giving 11 year olds jobs so they wil stop joinging gang and getting killed .And so the parents have to think about there kid getting hurt all the time.
