Speak Up! - View Question #26

    printer friendly version

Question: If driving with a permit alone and are pulled over what are the possible concerns?

Answer: A Learner's Permit is not a license to drive a car. It is a special permit that allows you to drive a car on the road only for the purpose of learning to drive, and you must have a licensed driver with you at all times.

The point of a Learner's Permit is to give you an opportunity to learn to drive, with supervision from someone with a license.

If you were to be caught driving without supervision, you will first be cited for driving without a license just as anyone else would that is driving without a license. In addition, it is likely that you will not be allowed to obtain a Driver's License at all for some period of time as punishment for breaking the law. The period of time until you could get a License would depend on the circumstances, but will probably be until you turn eighteen year's old.

Yea!! I mean that is pretty stupid making you wait until you are 18 to get your license for a lil mistake, I mean I just got pulled over(for a broken tail light) tonight with only my permit and of course I am going to court for it, but I mean I was taking my friend to the hospital cause her mom had a stroke and she needed to go there and check on her!! I have had my permit for lil over 5 months and I should get my license next month guess not now that I screwed it up for only a broken tail light trying to make it to the hospital, but hey people make mistakes I understand but come on 2 years of

what if your already past 18?

    Editor's Note:
If you are over 18 years of age, you need not get a permit before getting a license. Once you are 18, you can apply for a regular driver's license. If you get caught driving without a license when you are over 18, that's another story. The penalties can be pretty stiff for that offense.
