Question: Are Tattoos and body piercing allowed to be shown? Ok in School?
Answer: Tattoos and body piercing are considered to be an expression of thought and are protected by the first amendment right to free speech (United States Constitution).
However, people under 18, because of their age and status as minors, are subject to rules which adults are not.
This true of school rules and attendance. At school, rules can be made that tattoos, piercing, clothes or hair-color must be covered or changed, and these rules are not unconstitutional.
Parents also have a right to control the behavior of children, and so can order their children to not display tattoos, piercing, or other things such as hair color.

Amber, i agree with you. I think we should get pericings anywhere we want. The school should't even have the right to say where to put them besides its not like they pay for it. I mean if our parents didnt want us to have it they wouldnt have got it but still are parents shouldnt even have anything to say because its not them going through the pain. but you do have a good point and i back you up a 100%.

I am in college right now and mostly students show their tattoos. But, I do know that in high school, we were not as able to. I really don't see that much of a problem, unless it was a vulgar picture or saying, otherwise it should not cause any offense to anybody. Just make sure whatever and wherever the tattoo is make sure it is not too profane and isn't in an area where you would have your co-workers or boss seeing when you apply for a job. Then they are hazardous.

Recently pierced my septum(nose) had it for about 2 weeks, and was suspended indefinately until i removed it, i believe, and still am fighting against why i was suspended because the policy for the school says nothing about piercings, and i've asked all my teachers whether or not it was distracting from learning it wasn't, so its bs, im puttin it back in.
