Speak Up! - View Question #458 |
printer friendly version
Question: How long does it take to become a lawyer? Is it fun? Where can I go to school?
Answer: It takes at least seven years after high school graduation to become a lawyer - about four years to get a bachelor's degree and three years for law school. After law school you must pass a test called the 'bar exam' in order to become a lawyer. There is a law school at Arizona State University (in Tempe) and another at the University of Arizona (in Tucson). There are also a lot of law schools in other states. Libraries have lists that rank law schools. No job is 100% fun, but there are fun things about being a lawyer. Many lawyers get to meet new people a lot. Most lawyers work long hours. Most lawyers do not have to do the kind of work that hurts their bodies. The best thing about being a lawyer is helping others.
See the Arizona Bar Association's booklet about careers in law.
Also see LawForKids.org Law Links section for a list of national and international law schools.
