    printer friendly version

Question: At what age can you choose which parents you want to live with either?

Answer: Your adopted parents are your legal parents and have the right to make decisions on your behalf until you are 18, including where you live. This must be a difficult situation for you and the adults involved if you are now having contact with your biological parents. Depending on the circumstances of your biological parents and your age, sometimes visitation arrangements can be worked out if all parties are willing. You may want to speak to your school counselor, you may need an adult to help you work through this.

I am a foster child, but my parents still have legal custody of me. I am old enough to be emancipated, but I am scared that I will not be able to do the things I have set myself to if I live alone. I don't know if anyone is going through this but, I am lost.

But what if one partner never told the other they may have shared a child together and kept it hidden? Then at age 4 the little girls mom died from an accident. Then immediately the grandparents adopt her and never tell the man they suspect to be the father that he may have a little girl. Then the little girl at age 12 needs to know. DNA prove that the man suspected all those years was the father of this little girl. Now these two have a strong bond. She now has a family with a brother and a sister. Grand parents told her she could live with her dad at any time she was ready. That they
