Question: If you are caught with a loud car stereo disturbing the peace, what is the penalty?
Answer: Disturbing the peace is usually a misdemeanor, which means you can be fined up to several thousand dollars and be placed in jail for several months. The penalties vary by state. Laws about loud music and disturbing the peace are usually city ordinances. For example, the City of Dearborn Heights Ordinance No. H-63-6 [2.5] in Michigan makes it unlawful to make or assist in making any noise, disturbance, trouble or improper diversion, or any rout or riot, by which the peace and good order of the city are disturbed. You could find out what your city's laws about car stereos and the penalties by calling the public information office of your local city.

Lindsay, first of all you probably already know the difference between TREBLE and BASS, if not...(in short)Treble's frequencies are such that the air/sound-wave created is short and does'nt penetrate walls and metal ect.,in other words they need open air to travel long distances. On the opposite end...BASS is a long air/sound-wave which penetrates almost anything hundreds of yards away "especially boxed in homes" but is not as detectable in open air, thus that's why we have to go outside to get away from the Drum-Drum. I don't care if your on a main street or not... were gonna feel the BASS!

I find no problem with a loud stereo and some good bass. The problem I have is with people who talk down on kids for doing things with their time thats not so bad. Hey at least they aren't killing people, or doing drugs. Let kids have fun. Didn't all of you have some fun at one point or another? I have a Alpine Stereo. I understand it can be loud BUT I am kind enough not to turn it up until a certain time, and I don't blast my stereo through my development EVER! I don't want to wake the little kids and disturb the parents. I'm not a disrespectful person, and no one thinks of me that way

People who already have loud stereo's, due to the kind of money and time put in to getting it in should be allowed to keep it there and play it with respect. I feel if there needs to be a law it should be to have signs put up for areas of no loud stereo use, and if used in area then punishment, besides that I think this is rediculous to make a huge deal out of this. I had mine for 3 years, and I never had a problem with anything. I notice everything around me. Plus only use my stereo on main roads. I have to listen to loud factory stereos so if theres a problem take it up with the music maker

Here it is dinner time, time to relax. If the kid behind me had parents with some brains I would be able to enjoy my dinner. All I can hear is boom boom boom and listen to my stained glass windows vibrate. I not only get this at dinner time, but I think he thinks he is my own personal alarm clock at 6:25 in the morning. Can someone please tell if there is a law against this noise? I called the cops but they said by the time they get here, he would be gone, which is true. I have asked him to lower it down, he does for a few minutes until I get in the house, then it goes back up!

It is 2:17 AM and there is a punk somewhere pumping his bass...how rude! It's just loud enough to get in my head and I can't get any sleep. I want to find a way to do something about this, after all who's going call the cops at 2:30 AM and tell them there's someone disturbing the peace but you don't know who it is. If anyone has any suggestions, please post it!
