Speak Up! - View Question #503

    printer friendly version

Question: Are sniffing whiteout and magic markers illegal?

Answer: Inhaling toxic vapors is commonly referred to as 'Huffing' and it is against the law in Arizona.

It is against the law to knowingly breathe, inhale, or drink a vapor-releasing toxic substance. Common things that fit this definition are glue, spray paint, gasoline, etc.

There are also regulations regarding the sale of inhalants. Using or selling these substances is regarded as a class 5 felony or a class 1 misdemeanor depending on the seriousness of the offense. (ARS 13-3403).

Also see more information on this topic under substances in the LawForKids.org Laws section.

Okay...I don't know about all you, but I rarely sniff white out to get high on it. I sniff it simply because it smells good!! So yah...it is one of the best smelling things out there, that toxic, addicting smell is just so calming, it just smells good. This is the same reason I sometimes sniff permanent marker, and propane oil...because it smells good. Can't anyone else relate?? Sure, it's bad for me, it's already damaged my lungs. I have asthma, and I find it hard just running now, it has accumulated in my lungs somehow, I am sure. It's given me headaches. I sometimes get a bit of a buzz. But

I have a similar problem with not quite straight foward drug abuse. My friends have a buisness coloring patches of paper with scented markers and selling them to people so they can sniff it. I need to proove to them that it is dangerous, and that I don't give a fudge weather it is 'nontoxic.' That label is bull....mess, and I need some way to get these guys back to teh non-marker sniffing community. Can anyone help me save the lives of these kids? The people who were once my friends have now become junior drug dealers. Please. I need proof that it is bad; internet proof.
