    printer friendly version

Question: Does a minor have the right, when pregnant, to keep the baby against parental consent?

Answer: In Arizona, the parents of a pregnant minor cannot legally force their child to have an abortion. If the minor chooses to give birth and not place the baby with adoptive parents, the minor's parents are NOT legally obligated to support the baby. If the minor and the baby's father and any other willing relatives cannot or will not support or care for the baby, the government may step in. This could result in the baby becoming Dependent. Some Dependent children live with birth parents or other relatives but are subject to government monitoring. Other Dependent babies are placed in foster care.

Great for you, Heather! I'm glad you feel that way! I'm serious, whoevers body it is had the right to make the decisions. The parents should have NO say in what the minor wants to do with THEIR body!

I think that when you are a 22 and under and decide to have a baby then you ahve just made a major decision. you will have to give up a lot. I know this from my experience. you oose alot but gain alot. You have to work harder for what you want and you really can't do much. But I do not think that the government or your parent should take your baby or have you monitored. That is ridiculous. Think would they want that done to them? Probably not.

Everyone who has responded to this has not had a child. When you are a teen parent you have a lot of people look down on you and try to tell you that what you are doing is wrong. My mother wanted me to get an abortion, but I didn't want to do that or give my child up for adoption. And I knew that I had the right to make that decision, but my father still tells me that he could have made me have an abortion. However you feel about having a baby is up to you and there is not much your parents can do about it except tell you that they can.
