    printer friendly version

Question: Can a parent spank their kid at any age before 18 years old? I don't mean beat the kid just spank them?

Answer: Arizona law does provide that parents and persons acting as parents, including school personnel, may use corporal punishment (spanking). The punishment must be reasonable and not excessive.

In Arizona a child is anyone under the age of 18, and until you are 18, you are under the care, custody and control of your parent or legal guardian.

The Arizona Legislature passed a new law that went into effect on August 12, 2005 that allows minors to be emancipated. However, emancipation is a very difficult process that few are eligible for. See the LawForKids.org Laws page for more information.

I got spanked until high school. I used to hate it, but now I see a lot of my old friends getting into serious trouble, and I'm glad my parents did. I've never been in serious trouble in my life. It works.

As scared as I was growing up that a spanking would be my punishment, I can see now that it is the right way and I agree with the comments of the gentelman who belived in this athoritive figure of the household and a talking to. Respect is what is missing and I had the highest respect for my father , dispite the spankings.

I curse and act disrespectful to the elderly. I think I should be punished for it via being spanked. How do I convince my dad to discipline me properly

i say, the government should mind there business. there would be less nonsence going on now a days if children we're taught. Spanking on a bare bottom over a parents knee, with a talking too afterwards shows understanding of the situation and love. i'm fron the old days where the man is head of the household and children should have the fear of God.

OH BE REAL, AS A FATHER AND SON. I MYSELF HAVE BEEN SPANKED AS A CHILD GROWING UP AND HAD MY BOTTOM BARED. ITS NOT CONSIDERED SEXUAL ABUSE, THAT TOTALLY DIFFERENT. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOUR DAUGHTER TOTALLY SNAPPED AND WAS TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL.. YOU WOULD POSS. IF HER A SPANKING, RIGHT....THINK ABOUT IT....
