Question: Can a parent spank their kid at any age before 18 years old? I don't mean beat the kid just spank them?
Answer: Arizona law does provide that parents and persons acting as parents, including school personnel, may use corporal punishment (spanking). The punishment must be reasonable and not excessive.
In Arizona a child is anyone under the age of 18, and until you are 18, you are under the care, custody and control of your parent or legal guardian.
The Arizona Legislature passed a new law that went into effect on August 12, 2005 that allows minors to be emancipated. However, emancipation is a very difficult process that few are eligible for. See the LawForKids.org Laws page for more information.

I think spanking is just fine. Not beating just a spank. I was spanked as a kid by a bare hand or a paddle...its done me the world of good. I continue to spank my kids as well. my daughter who is 10 years of age just last week backchatted me and refused to do what i told her even after several warnings. I sent her up to her bedroom and gave her 15 mins. I came in the room took off her clothes and gave her 10 moderatly hard smacks. My daughter has been perfectly behaved ever since.

You can try to reason with kids all you want but sometimes the old fashioned methods work best. It certainly did with me. When I was about 9 I had ditched school and got caught. As soon as we walked in the house she turned me over her knee and wore out my butt! I couldn't sit for a day or two but never ditched school again.
